Basic Architecture

The following sections describe the basic architecture of the Neuron® and Neuron-networks.

Software Architecture

Following is a diagram that depicts the basic software architecture of the Neuron®, as layers, and what functions exist in different layers:

Software Distribution Architecture

Neurons distribute software packages across the Neuron® network. A parent neuron provides software packages to all its child neurons. By uploading a software package to a neuron, the software package gets efficiently distributed to that neuron, and all neurons below that neuron in the Neuron® tree. Connected clients can also subscribe to selected software package notifications. This makes it possible for clients to manually or automatically get access to software updates from the nuron network, as they become available. By organizing neurons into tree networks, software distribution becomes both decentralized, globally scalable and efficient. By organizing neurons into multiple tree structures, different versions can be managed in different networks.

Federated Broker Architecture

Neurons federate across the Internet to create a global interoperable network. There is no hierarchy in such a network, except clients Ci,j that connect to Neurons (brokers) on different Domains Di, and that Neurons (brokers) Di interconnect to cooperate in delivering messages across domains. This allows and Client Ci,j to interoperate with any other client, regardless of what domain they are connected to.
